UFC 189: Conor McGregor Fires Away at Jose Aldo’s Finishing Record

The UFC held a “World Tour” event today in Rio de Janeiro, and once again, Conor McGregor fired verbal shots at his next opponent, featherweight champ Jose Aldo.

McGregor and Aldo are touring in advance of their July 11th fight, which will take place at UFC 189 in Las Vegas. Since McGregor arrived in the UFC in 2013, the brash fighter has been heavily critical of Aldo, despite the fighter’s storied reign as featherweight champ.

Case in point, here is some of what McGregor had to say about Aldo during today’s event (quotes via UFC.com):

“The guy has one finish in UFC history!” McGregor reportedly said. “One legit finish.  That’s it. I have four. Facts are facts. When I hit, they fall. When he hits, they survive. That’s it.

“He has 25 minutes to hide that battle-worn chin from me. It won’t happen. In 25 minutes, I will hit him and he will fall!”

Aldo has gone 7-0 since the WEC merged into the UFC, and during that time he has two stoppage victories. One came via knockout over Chad Mendes in 2012, and the other was a TKO victory over Chan Sung Jung in 2013. The end of that fight, however, came shortly after Jung incurred a shoulder injury.

During Aldo’s run in the WEC, however, the Brazilian fighter finished seven of the eight opponents he faced.
