UFC 194’s Joe Proctor: It Doesn’t Matter if Magomed Mustafaev’s “Had One Fight in The UFC or Five or Six”

Some might argue that Joe Proctor has little to gain in his upcoming bout with Magomed Mustafaev, but the UFC vet doesn’t see it that way.

Proctor is scheduled to meet Mustafaev at UFC 194 on December 12th, in what will be his seventh fight with the promotion. Since Mustafaev, on the other hand, has only fought once for the UFC, the question could be raised as to whether Proctor has much more to lose.

Well, recently Proctor appeared on Full Contact Fighter Radio, and he was asked for his thoughts on the argument above. The 30 year-old lightweight stated:

“Some people look at it that way but I don’t really look at it that way,” said Proctor, who is coming off a memorable, submission win over Justin Edwards in June. “I don’t put myself on a pedestal. I’m always trying to get better.”

“After every fight I look at the things I did wrong and not the things I did right,” added Proctor. “I’m always trying to perform better for the next fight. Even though he doesn’t have a lot of fights in the UFC he’s still tough. He’s still in there, he made it to the UFC, so every fight is the best, next big fight for me. So it doesn’t matter whether he’s had one fight in the UFC or he’s had five or six. He’s trying to put a blemish on my record, and that’s what we have to worry about.”

The Russian fighter made his UFC debut in June, and he scored a TKO win over Piotr Hallmann. The win was the 27 year-old’s 10th in a row.

“He’s a very tough opponent,” said Proctor, who’s gone 4-2 in official UFC bouts. “We looked at some of the tape and he’s really aggressive. He’s got a good record, and even though, one fight in the UFC, he’s finishing all of his opponents over in Russia. So he’s definitely a tough contender and he’s definitely right up there and ready to fight. I know he’s going to bring it and I’m going to bring it too.”

UFC 194 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. In the main event, featherweight champ Jose Aldo will take on Conor McGregor.
