UFC 195: Tyron Woodley Outlines Why he Should Fight Robbie Lawler Next, Not Carlos Condit

Although Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit went to war at UFC 195 and put on an instant classic, Tyron Woodley has outlined why an immediate rematch should not be booked.

Since Saturday’s bout was so competitive and entertaining, fans and observers are already calling for Lawler – Condit II. The fight saw Lawler defend the welterweight title via split decision, but plenty of people had the challenger winning the fight.

Woodley was a commentator for FOX Sport’s 1 on Saturday, and after the bout, the contender had this to say about an immediate rematch (quote via press release):

“Condit doesn’t have the threat of wrestling and takedowns. He doesn’t have the speed. I have way more power than him. I’m hungry. I’ve been sitting at the door, trying to get a bite and a bone. Styles make fights and I think my style matches up against anyone in the welterweight division.”

“These rematches, we’ve seen these every other weekend. We really don’t need to see another rematch. I’m over them. Someone else should get to fight Lawler and Condit can win one and get right back in there.”

Woodley was scheduled to fight Johny Hendricks in October, in what was expected to be a title shot eliminator. Hendricks had to withdraw due to complications from weight cutting, however, and the promotion announced afterwards that Woodley would receive a title shot.
