UFC 196: Dana White Tells Fired up Frankie Edgar “I Love You”, “Calm Down”

It didn’t take Frankie Edgar long to resume his campaign for a title fight with Conor McGregor, following the latter’s loss, and Dana White’s ensured him he’s in the mix.

McGregor faced Nate Diaz in a welterweight contest at UFC 196, and was submitted in the second round by the always dangerous veteran. The bout came together after McGregor was initially awarded a title fight with lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos, who recently withdrew due to a broken foot. The fight’s booking upset Edgar, who after taking out fellow featherweight contender Chad Mendes in December, was hoping to face McGregor next.

Well, after UFC 196, Edgar had the following to say about McGregor, during the FOX Sports post-fight show (quote via press release):

“I’m assuming he has no other choice but to come back down and defend his featherweight title and I’m waiting him. I know Aldo is vying for the rematch. He had his chance. Conor beat Aldo in 13 seconds. I’m coming for it and I’m getting my belt. There’s an unknown with me. I’m going to be bothering these guys. I want this fight.”

White, in turn, relayed this while discussing the 145 title shot picture:

“I don’t know what Conor’s going to do. It makes all the sense in the world for him to defend the belt now against either Frankie or Jose. We’ll see when he wants to fight again. I love you Frankie, calm down. At the end of the day, I believe if Conor won he would have fought Robbie and might have never gone back.”

UFC 196 took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
