Following Vitor Belfort’s one sided loss to “Jacare” Souza at UFC 198 on Saturday, the legendary fighter has argued he was too hesitant and defensive in the quick scrap.

Souza took Belfort to the ground shortly into the bout, and proceeded to finish the vicious striker with strikes. Recently the Brazilian star opened up about the loss on Facebook, and here is some of what he had to say (translation via MMA Fighting.com):

“Saturday was a day that I went to work but didn’t work. Have you ever had that feeling?” Belfort said. “I learned through my life that we can’t stop learning, and the lesson I take from my fight Saturday is: don’t wait too much for the moment because if it doesn’t come and you don’t go for it, nothing will happen. I didn’t in my fight, I was focused in the defense and lost my main quality: the attack.

“If I could leave my learning here to you, that cost me a bitter defeat, is don’t wait for the moment to come, but go after it with the confident that you will conquer it. Merits to my opponent.”

The 39 year-old fighter’s record fell to 25-12 with the defeat on Saturday. Belfort is 3-2 in his last 5 fights.
