Tom Breese defeated Keita Nakamura in February, just as the experts said he would, but the undefeated fighter says he took plenty of heat for his performance, nonetheless.

Since the 24 year-old Breese is widely regarded to be one of the UFC’s top welterweight prospects, the British fighter was a massive favorite to beat Nakamura at UFC Fight Night 84. Breese managed to do just that, but the rising star needed three rounds and the judges scorecards to get past the rugged vet.

Recently Breese spoke to UFC.com in advance of his fight this Saturday with Sean Strickland. While discussing his last win, and the reception it received, the Tristar fighter stated:

“There were a lot of trolls and a lot of haters,” Breese said. “There was a good mix to be fair. There were people that were really impressed with the way I handled the fight and some of the skills I showed during the 15 minutes. And of course, there were the people who just want to write you off. Those are the people that don’t understand the game.”

With the win, Breese moved his overall record to 10-0. The 25 year-old Strickland (17-1), meanwhile, has recorded consecutive wins after he was decisioned by Santiago Ponzinibbio last February.
