UFC 201: Tyron Woodley Calls For Bout With Nick Diaz Following Championship Win

Tyron Woodley

Prior to UFC 201, Stephen Thompson argued that he, and not Tyron Woodley should fight for the title. Well, now that the latter’s the UFC’s welterweight champ, it looks like he’s looking past Thompson to Nick Diaz.

Woodley pounded Robbie Lawler with a big overhand right just minutes into their bout, and prompted the ref’s intervention with several more shots. Before Saturday’s event, Woodley made it clear he didn’t care for Thompson’s prediction that he would be challenging Lawler for the belt next.

Well, during the FOX Sports 1 post-fight show, Woodley had this to say about who he wants to fight next (quote via FOX Sports press release):

“You said that you wanted to fight Lawler. Now you get the opportunity. Now Nick Diaz is coming off suspension in two days. If he wants to fight on the same card with his brother in August, he can against me. That’s the money fight. Let’s go get it. I’m ready.”

“You’ll get your chance after I make this money [against Diaz].”

Woodley has won three straight fights now since he was decisioned by Rory MacDonald in 2014. Lawler had won five straight prior to facing Woodley.
