The UFC held a media call yesterday in advance of UFC 205, and Eddie Alvarez made it clear once again, he isn’t buying into all the hype surrounding Conor McGregor.

For sometime now, Alvarez has argued that McGregor has been hand picking his opponents, and that the featherweight champ hasn’t truly been tested in the Octagon. During the call, the lightweight champ continued to fire away at McGregor’s UFC tenure, as he said this about his own future (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“I will go down as the best lightweight in UFC history, that’s what I’ll go down as,” Alvarez said. “It’ll start with him [McGregor], but then, I will make UFC great again and I will continue to fight the number one guys who belong here. I sincerely felt I deserved a break. This [UFC 205] is my break, and then we’ll get back to some real sh*t and get back to fighting the real number one contenders, who fight the best guys and earn their way to the title, not the guys who have a funny accent and sell tickets”

Alvarez laid claim to the lightweight title in July by stopping Rafael dos Anjos. McGregor, meanwhile, avenged his submission loss to Nate Diaz in his last bout, by scoring a UD win in August.

UFC 205 will take place on November 12th in New York City.
