Khabib Nurmagomedov has never lost and is widely considered to be one of the best, if not the best, grappler in MMA, but Michael Johnson welcomed the opportunity to face “The Eagle” at UFC 205.

Johnson was booked to face the #1 ranked, lightweight contender on November 12th, after the promotion announced UFC 205 will be headlined by Eddie Alvarez – Conor McGregor. Recently Johnson appeared on MMA Junkie.com Radio, and while discussing his desire to fight Nurmagomedov, the talented striker said this (quote via MMA Junkie.com):

“It’s a big fight, and it seems like they can never get anybody to fight him,” Johnson said. “And they’ve built so much hype around him and they think everybody’s scared to fight him. So I’ve just been training, taking out my opponents on my way to get to the title. I have to go through him, so let’s get this fight out of the way. I wanted to fight him earlier, and now I’m getting my chance.”

Johnson is coming off a first round, KO win over Dustin Poirier in September. Nurmagomedov, meanwhile, fought last in April and stopped Darrell Horcher.

UFC 205 will be hosted by Madison Square Garden in New York City.
