Tyron Woodley repeatedly said that his first title defense wasn’t going to be against Stephen Thompson, but today the welterweight champ announced that he will indeed fight the contender on November 12th.

During the FOX Sports 1 weigh-in show, Woodley confirmed that he is going to face Thompson at the November 12th card, which will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

After Woodley (16-3) knocked Robbie Lawler out in July, he called for fights with Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz. Woodley also argued that Thompson should fight Lawler next, since “Wonderboy” aggressively campaigned for a bout with the now former champ, earlier this year. Thompson had also predicted that Lawler would defeat Woodley.

Thompson (13-1) has locked up a title shot thanks to a seven fight winning streak, which most recently saw him decision Rory MacDonald.
