UFC 206: Anthony Pettis Comments on Missing Weight, Says he “Did Everything Right”

Although Anthony Pettis failed to make weight for his bout tonight with Max Holloway, the former lightweight champ says he did everything right in preparing for the bout.

Pettis was scheduled to face Holloway for the interim 145 title, but since he weighed in at 148, only the latter can claim the belt at UFC 206. After Pettis failed to make weight for tonight’s headliner, the noted finisher told MMA Fighting the following:

“It was a team call,” Pettis said. “My body just wouldn’t let go of that extra weight. It’s just one those things. We did everything right beforehand, everything was on point. My body just gave out. I had nothing left to give.

“In the end, we decided that my career and health are more important than those two extra pounds.”

“Showtime” made his featherweight debut in August, and submitted fellow contender Charles Oliveira. The win ended a three fight losing streak for Pettis.

UFC 206 will take place in Toronto, Ontario.
