UFC 206: Kelvin Gastelum Plans Return to 170 But Interested in Facing Vitor Belfort

Kelvin Gastelum still intends to head back down to the welterweight division, but in the meantime, he would take a fight with legendary middleweight Vitor Belfort.

Gastelum finished middleweight contender Tim Kennedy at UFC 206 on Saturday night, after failing to make weight for a welterweight contest with Donald Cerrone in November. After the win, Gastelum had this to say about his future, while speaking to the media (quote via MMA Junkie):

“I think if I’m offered a fight that interests me at 185, I don’t see why I wouldn’t stay here, but I think 170 is my optimum weight class,” Gastelum said. “I took this fight as a favor for the UFC. I knew they need a replacement for Rashad Evans, so I stepped in, and I heard they need another replacement in Brazil with Vitor Belfort, so if they want to make that happen, then I’ll do it. I’m willing to step up and do that as well.”

The 25 year-old Gastelum’s record now stands at 13-2. The only losses the TUF 17 winner has incurred to date were via split decision to Tyron Woodley and Neil Magny.
