Following the late withdrawal of Cain Velasquez from UFC 207, Fabricio Werdum says he’s willing to fight anyone at this Friday’s card.

Recently it was announced that Velasquez has not been medically cleared by the Nevada Commission to face Werdum, December 30th. The development came not long after Velasquez reported that he was planning to undergo back surgery, shortly into 2017.

Since the news of Velasquez’s withdrawal, Werdum has told MMA Fighting the following:

“We’re waiting. I’m on standby. If the UFC calls me, I’ll fight. I’m ready to fight,” Werdum said. “If the UFC says they have an opponent, I’ll fight. I’ll fight anyone, like I always did. I always fought the best. My record shows that. If I were afraid of anyone, I wouldn’t be in this sport.”

“…“I want to fight Friday. It’s hard because of the strategy, to prepare for someone on days’ notice. I’ve been thinking about Cain Velasquez for three or four months, training for him, but I’ll fight anyone. Just give me a fight.”

In the aforementioned report, Werdum denied that he’s turned down a bout with Junior dos Santos, who claimed on Twitter he was offered to step in as a replacement and accepted.
