Tony Ferguson wouldn’t sign on to a bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov until his contract was renegotiated, and the lightweight contender’s reporting he was able to do just that.

For several weeks, both Ferguson and Nurmagomedov expressed an interest in fighting each other, after it was reported that lightweight champ Conor McGregor is taking some time off.  Ferguson, however, argued he has “outperformed” his current deal.

Well, recently the promotion announced that the lightweights will fight for an interim title on March 4th at UFC 209. Since then, Ferguson appeared on MMA Junkie Radio, and while discussing the fact the bout’s materialized, “El Cucuy” stated (quote via MMA Junkie):

“They met my standards,” Ferguson said. “Khabib’s offer I threw right out the window immediately. That was some trashy kind of thing. But we’re good to good. We’re full swing ahead. … We worked out financial terms. I’ve earned my stripes in this division. I’ve put in my time. I’ve put in my work. I’ve put in my effort, especially when no fans were watching when I didn’t have cameras on me.”

Ferguson is currently riding a nine fight winning streak. UFC 209 will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
