Anthony Johnson sent a shock wave throughout MMA by announcing he’s retiring on Saturday night, but the feared striker says his new endeavour is not necessarily better than fighting.

Johnson made his surprising announcement after he was submitted by Daniel Cormier in the headliner of UFC 210. The bout marked the second time the light-heavyweight has been tapped out by the champion.

When Johnson first announced he was retiring from fighting, he relayed he has agreed to accept a new position, but wouldn’t disclose what the opportunity is. During the post-fight press conference, “Rumble” didn’t say what his new endeavour is, but he had this to say about his shocking decision (quote via MMA Fighting):

“It’s just business,” Johnson said. “I want to do something besides going to the gym everyday punching and kicking and rolling around with another dude. That sh*t gets old. I’ve been doing this for so long, I’ve been in sports since I was 8, it’s just time to move on to something different. I won’t say better, but just different.”

The 33 year-old Johnson had recorded three straight, stoppage wins over Glover Teixeira, Ryan Bader and Jimi Manuwa leading up to his rematch with Cormier.
