Jorge Masvidal doesn’t wan to fight his friend and teammate Tyron Woodley, but the outspoken welterweight will, if need be.

Masvidal has jumped right into the title shot mix, thanks to a stoppage win over Donald Cerrone in January. Up next, Masvidal will take on Demian Maia at the May 13th, UFC 211 card. Before that bout was announced, the consensus was that Maia would challenge the winner of Woodley – Stephen Thompson II, which took place earlier this month. Woodley retained the title with a majority decision win.

Masvidal appeared on a recent episode of “The MMA Hour”. When asked about the possibility of facing his fellow, American Top Team fighter, Masvidal had this to say about Woodley (quote via MMA Fighting):

“We used to train a lot together when we were both in Strikeforce, like a lot. We’re buddies, and we’ve always been cool since day one. That’s not the dude that I want to fight, you know what I’m saying? But when it comes for the belt, it’s different. I didn’t get into this to high-five people. I got in this to [beat people up].”

“Gamebred” is currently riding a three fight winning streak, while Maia has won six in a row. UFC 211 will take place in Dallas, Texas.
