Following Robert Whittaker’s victory over Yoel Romero, which handed him the interim 185 title, the Australian is being respectful of the reigning champ, Michael Bisping.

Whittaker worked his way to a decision win over the powerful wrestler at UFC 213, and now, he will likely advance to face the British champ. During FOX Sports 1’s post-fight show, Whittaker was asked to weigh-in on fighting Bisping, and here’s some of what he had to say (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“That’s going to be a tough fight. You’ve got all the experience. I have respect for you. I’m the sort of fighter who goes in without emotions. It’s a sport. But in my rugby days it was whatever happens on the field, stays on the field.”

We were supposed to fight once. We had a game plan then and it’s tucked away. We’ll bring it back out when it’s time. It’s Australia vs. England, which is always massive. It’s been a journey. I’ve got the best team in the world. This fight means nothing after this.”

With Whittaker’s win on Saturday, the 26 year-old has now won eight straight fights.
