UFC 215: Amanda Nunes Isn’t Looking For Ronda Rousey Like Fame

Amanda Nunes has repeatedly noted that Ronda Rousey received much more, promotional push when they were set to battle, but the champ admits she isn’t hoping to reach the same level of fame as “Rowdy”.

Nunes and Rousey fought last December at UFC 207, in a bout that marked the return of the latter, following her 2015 loss to Holly Holm. The UFC’s ads and commercials for the contest featured Rousey extensively, while Nunes was mostly left in the background.

Fast forward to today, and Nunes is set to take on Valentina Shevchenko tonight at UFC 215. While talking to Yahoo Sports recently, Nunes had this to say about her level of fame, and Rousey:

“The name of Ronda Rousey is No. 1 in the UFC and everyone knows this,” Nunes said. “I’m not famous like that. I’m a girl who loves to fight, that’s all. When you become a UFC fighter, you know it’s going to change a little and you’ll get a certain amount [of attention], but when you fight Ronda Rousey, they will promote her and no one else. It’s Ronda, Ronda, Ronda and not everyone else.”

“I honestly don’t care in this moment,” Nunes added. “If they want to promote me, make me a focus, cool. That’s good for both of us and there would be more money for me, of course. But if no, if they don’t want to promote me, that’s cool, too. I have money. I made more money than I ever thought.

“And I would hate it if I had to get a bodyguard to be with me everywhere I go. No. I don’t want that…”

Nunes and Shevchenko will be fighting for a second time tonight in Edmonton, Alberta. The two fought in March, 2016, and Nunes won via unanimous decision.
