As Evan Dunham continues to prepare for his 19th fight in the UFC, the 36 year-old fighter has made it clear he won’t be hanging up the gloves, until he’s certain it’s time.

Dunham (18-6-1) is booked to take on Olivier Aubin-Mercier at UFC 223, which will go down on April 7th in Brooklyn, New York. Although the lightweight has gone undefeated in five straight fights, since Dunham is closer now to 40 than 30, he’s fielding questions about his future in fighting. While discussing that subject recently, the rugged vet said this (quote via MMA Junkie):

“My biggest fear is looking back and saying, ‘What if?’” Dunham said. “I don’t ever want to say what if. If I cut it too short, I don’t want to be that old guy sitting on the couch, explaining to my grandkids, ‘You know, I could have done this if I would have …’

“No ‘what-ifs.’ I’m going to hammer it out until I know there’s nothing left. When there’s nothing left I’ll know, and then I’ll be OK walking away. And I’m not putting any time on that.”

Dunham is coming off a majority draw with Beneil Dariush in October, after winning four in a row.
