UFC 223: Olivier Aubin-Mercier’s in no Hurry to Enter Top 10 Lightweight Ranks
By FCF Staff
Olivier Aubin-Mercier could enter the UFC’s top 15 rankings if he defeats Evan Dunham on April 7th, but the Canadian reports he’s in no rush to crack the top 10.
Aubin-Mercier will battle the veteran at UFC 223, which will take place in Brooklyn, New York. As the bout nears, OAM is riding a three fight winning streak and Dunham is sitting in the #14 spot, but recently the decorated Judo competitor told UFC.com this:
“I think I’m one of the few fighters in the top 30 that is still getting better in every fight,” Aubin-Mercier said. “Every training camp I feel better, and for this fight I really feel great and I feel that my game really evolved in the last few months. That’s my goal. After this fight I don’t want to go straight to the top ten; I want to do that in the beginning of next year so I can evolve a little bit more. I work hard with all my coaches, I have a great team and every training camp is a part of the puzzle. At some point, the puzzle is gonna be done and I’m going to be even more happy.”
Most recently the 29 year-old earned a split decision win over Tony Martin. The 36 year-old Dunham, meanwhile, fought Beneil Dariush to a draw in his last bout.
