UFC 224: Raquel Pennington’s Not Happy With All The Cris “Cyborg” vs. Amanda Nunes Talk

Raquel "Rocky" Pennington

By FCF Staff

Raquel Pennington is officially scheduled to fight bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes at UFC 224, but the contender isn’t happy with all the talk about the latter fighting Cris “Cyborg”.

A few weeks ago, the expectation was that Pennington would fight Nunes on May 12th. But, after Cris “Cyborg” stopped Yuna Kunitskaya at UFC 222 earlier this month, UFC President Dana White talked about scrapping that fight, in favor of having Nunes face the 145 champ.

Since then, Nunes – Pennington has been announced. But, while speaking to the media in advance of the card, Pennington said this, when asked to comment on all the recent, “Cyborg” – Nunes talk (quote via MMA Junkie):

“The whole thing, it just – it makes my blood boil,” Pennington said. “It pisses me off. I’m going to say it again: This is an opportunity that I deserved. And this is the fight that does make sense.

“Me and Amanda are both 135-ers, and I am the No. 1 contender, so that’s what makes sense.”

Pennington is riding a four fight winning streak, but hasn’t fought since 2016, when she earned a decision win over Miesha Tate.
