FCF Survey

This month we have a double survey question:

Larry Hazzard

  1. We’d like your opinion on New Jersey State Athletic Control Board Commissioner Larry Hazzard‘s thoughts on UFC XXX and MMA (we posted a recent interview with Mr. Hazzard on March 27th, scroll down to read it) and also…
  2. With UFC 31 scheduled to be held at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City on May 4th, we’d like your opinions on who will win the announced title fights and why…

Some of the commentary we receive will appear in the April 2001 issue of FCF

Rusk, Lawler To Headline Extreme Trials

Two of the up-and-coming stars of the Miletich Martial Arts Center will headline this Saturday’s Extreme Trials in Davenport, Iowa.

Steve Rusk and Robbie Lawler, both winners at the Mixed Martial Arts Nationals this year, will compete in pro bouts in front of their home fans.

[] Rusk, a former wrestling star at Illinois, is 2-0 as a pro and will face Brad Jones of Kansas City. Jones is an Extreme Challenge veteran and has fought the likes of Guy Mezger and Bobby Hoffman.

[] Lawler, a 19-year-old former high school wrestling standout, will be making his professional debut against Travis Sapp, also from Kansas City. Sapp has a 2-1 pro record.

The Extreme Trials features amateur competition in five weight divisions — 150-under, 170-under, 190-under, 210-under and heavyweight. The winners of each of the Trials events qualify for the Nationals, which are scheduled for December. The winners of the Nationals receive pro contracts to compete in Super Brawl, Extreme Challenge and USWF.

The next Extreme Trials is April 20 in Bloomington, Minn., and will feature UFC fighter Sean Sherk.

To enter either of the Trials, call Monte Cox at 319 332-2075.

HOOKnSHOOT “MASTERS”

HnS and Tito
HOOKnSHOOT “MASTERS” invade the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Coliseum on May 25, 2001 with another incredible line-up of Offical Shooto matches!

“We hope to keep momentum coming off such a successful show last time”, says promoter Jeff Osborne. “We’re hoping for this to be the biggest show we’ve done and get the continued support of not only the hardcore fans but the local fans as well.”

In the last event, 9-year-old Bren Fetcher faced off against 7-year-old Blake Blair in a special grappling match that ended up being the “fight of the night”. Both went for submissions, incredible throws and went all out resulting in a standing ovation! This time, they get to rematch in one of the feature bouts.

Fighters from Japan, Spain, Brasil and HnS collide in 10 action-packed matches.

In addition to the fights, UFC Champion Tito Ortiz will be on hand for an appearance. Tito, fresh off his title defense against Evan Tanner, will be in Evansville to check out the show and who knows what else.
