Recently Michael Bisping reported that a knee injury might prevent him from fighting anytime soon, and as a result, the UFC could book an interim title fight between Robert Whittkar and Yoel Romero.

After Georges St-Pierre relayed that he will not be able to fight Bisping until after October, Dana White announced that Romero would challenge the middleweight champ next. But, since then, Bisping has said he’d prefer to stick with the GSP bout, and he also reported he’s still recovering from a knee injury.

More recently, White told ESPN the following:

“We’re trying to put together that Bisping-Romero fight,” White said. “If [Bisping] can’t fight this summer, we’ll probably create an interim title between Romero and Robert Whittaker.”

Whittaker is coming off a stoppage win over fellow contender “Jacare” Souza in April, which was his seventh straight victory. Romero has won eight in a row and stopped Chris Weidman in his last bout, which took place in November.

In the aforementioned interview, White also reported that St-Pierre has said he’s willing to fight whoever holds the welterweight title when he’s ready to compete.
