Former middleweight contender Chael Sonnen returned to the winner’s column tonight at UFC Fight Night 26, as the decorated wrestler defeated former light-heavyweight champ “Shogun” Rua in the card’s main event to end his two fight losing streak.

Sonnen, who moved ahead early by securing the top position on the ground, caught Rua with a fight ending, guillotine choke during a late, opening round scramble. After the bout, the charismatic vet called out former PRIDE champ Wanderlei Silva in one of his customary, pro-wrestling inspired speeches. Prior to facing Rua, Sonnen had dropped consecutive bouts to former middleweight champ Anderson Silva and light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones.

In the co-main-event, Travis Browne rebounded from the vicious series of knees and punches Alistair Overeem threw his way, and caught the feared striker with a brilliantly timed front kick to the face. After the former Strikeforce heavyweight champ crashed to the mat, Browne finished off the fight with follow up hammer fists to pull off the upset win.
