UFC FN 103: BJ Penn Wants to Secure Third UFC Title in Comeback

Although BJ Penn hasn’t competed in over two years, and has lost three straight, the legendary fighter is targeting a third UFC title.

Earlier this year Penn announced he was ending his retirement, which came after he was stopped by Frankie Edgar in July, 2014. To prepare for his comeback, which will be at 145 pounds,  Penn has been training with the renowned Jackson – Wink MMA camp in Albuquerque.

Penn has had several fights fall through in the proceeding months, but recently the UFC announced that he’ll face rising featherweight Yair Rodriguez on January 15th. Penn was a guest on The Five Rounds podcast recently, and during the show, the former lightweight and welterweight champ said this (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“There’s more of an opportunity for me to get three UFC belts at 145 than going to 185. I really feel really confident that nobody’s gonna able to get the 155 and 170 pound belts. But my best shot at 38 years old, if you really wanted to ask me – I want to get one more world title and to try to get three titles at three weight classes – and without a doubt 145 is my best option.”

UFC FN 103 will take place at the Talking Stick Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. The 24 year-old Rodriguez has won seven straight fights.
