UFC FN 106: Vitor Belfort Repeats Plans to Retire After Next Bout, “My Body is Not The Same Anymore”

Immediately after Vitor Belfort was stopped by Kelvin Gastelum last night at UFC FN 106, the middleweight said his next bout will be his last, and he repeated those plans in the post-fight presser.

The legend was dropped by Gastelum in the opening round, and although Belfort got back to his feet, he was returned to the deck soon after with another shot. The fight was stopped at the 3:52 mark.

The 39 year-old fighter said he wants to fight one more time, which would complete his current UFC deal. In the post-fight press conference, the legendary fighter once again, repeated those plans (quote via MMA Fighting):

“It’s time to end this chapter as a professional fighter,” Belfort said. “My body is not the same anymore for training. It’s too much pain. I did more than 14 surgeries. I left everything in the Octagon. I’m sad because I didn’t give the win to my fellow Brazilians, but it happens.”

“I don’t have any names off the top of my head,” Belfort added. “I just don’t want to fight a Brazilian in Brazil. We have to sit down with the UFC and see which opponent would be an interesting fight. I never turned down fights, always fought the toughest ones in the division, but the last fight has to be special for the fans. Let’s see if that’s possible.”

Belfort did say he’d be interested in continue to fight, if the UFC created a “legends” division for older fighters, but the promotion has not expressed an interest in doing so. The defeat was Belfort’s third in a row, and the fourth in his last five fights.
