UFC FN 26: Browne, Brown, McDonald, Sonnen and Pickett Earn Bonuses
By FCF Staff
The Ultimate Fighting Championship elected to hand out six performance bonuses instead of its customary four for the promotion’s first FOX Sports 1 card, which went down at Boston’s TD Garden Arena.
“Knockout of the Night” went to Travis Browne and Matt Brown. Browne took out heavyweight Alistair Overeem with a highlight reel front kick and follow up punches, while Brown overwhelmed welterweight Mike Pyle with a flurry of punches for the first round win.
“Submission of the Night” was awarded to both Michael McDonald and Chael Sonnen. McDonald forced bantamweight contender Brad Pickett to tap out with a beautifully executed triangle choke, and Sonnen caught “Shogun” Rua with a fight ending guillotine choke.
McDonald and Pickett also earned “Fight of the Night” honors for their thrilling bout, which saw Pickett absorb an incredible amount of punishment, before he was finally tapped out.
Although the UFC’s tweet announcing the bonuses did not disclose the amount, recently fighters have been earning an extra $50,000 for the awards.
