UFC FN 42: Benson Henderson Says he Cares About “Good Performances”, Not Finishes

By FCF Staff

Although Benson Henderson is a former UFC lightweight champ, and is regarded as one of the planet’s best fighters, “Smooth” has received plenty of criticism in recent years for not finishing fights. Henderson likely silenced some of his critics last night at UFC FN 42, however, by submitting Rustam Khabilov in the main event.

Speaking to FOX Sports 1 after the victory, here is what Henderson had to say about his first UFC stoppage win (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“A finish is a finish. I don’t care about the finishes,” said Henderson, who’s last stoppage victory took place in 2010, when he tapped out Donald Cerrone at WEC 48. “It’s cool to get the submission, but I’m after good performances. That wasn’t too bad a performance.”

And as far as who Henderson wants to fight next? The 30 year-old stated:

“I want to stay busy. I’m a fighter. That’s what I do. All those guys who would fight for the belt, send them to me instead. I’ll take them on.”

Prior to facing Khabilov, Henderson worked his way to a split decision win over Josh Thomson in January. The only man to defeat the lightweight since 2007, is current reigning champion Anthony Pettis (twice).

UFC FN 42 was hosted by the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
