Diego Sanchez may have delivered a victory last night in his hometown of Albuquerque, but the consensus opinion seems to be that the lightweight was in fact defeated.

Following Sanchez’s controversial, split decision win over Ross Pearson at UFC FN 42, here is what FOX Sports 1 commentator Michael Bisping had to say about the bout (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“Everyone expected carnage in this fight, but it was a technical boxing match. Ross Pearson stayed in the pocket and landed the shots,” the British fighter noted about his fellow countrymen. “He had him beaten to the punch every time. Ross was the better, crisper fighter, to me. I truly feel Ross won that fight, but you never let it go to the judges. You never know what they’re looking at. It was a close fight.”

UFC commentators Dominick Cruz and Gilbert Melendez also relayed that they believed Pearson deserved the victory.

With the win, Sanchez ended a two fight losing streak, while Pearson was coming off a no contest result versus Melvin Guillard.
