The UFC’s first trip to New Zealand will not feature Australia’s Anthony Perosh after all, as the promotion has announced the light-heavyweight is withdrawing from the June 28th event. As a result, Sean O’Connell has agreed to step in and face Perosh’s scheduled opponent, Gian Villante.

No details regarding the nature of Perosh’s injury were disclosed.

Villante (11-5) will be looking to rebound from a decision loss to Fabio Maldonado in March, after he stopped Cody Donovan in November.

O’Connell (11-5) is coming off a defeat in his Octagon debut, as he was knocked out by Ryan Jimmo at the TUF Nations Finale in April. Prior to that the light-heavyweight had won six straight.

UFC FN 43 will be hosted by Auckland’s Vector Arena, and will feature James Te Huna taking on Nate Marquardt in the main event.
