The Ultimate Fighting Championship headed to Maine for the first time on Saturday, and the Fight Night card reportedly drew an attendance of just over 5,000.

Following the event, which was attended by 5,329 people and generated a gate of $321, 470 (figures via MMA Junkie.com), Dana White was asked to comment on the attendance.

“This was a personal one for me,” said White, who graduated from high school in Maine. “It didn’t make financial sense to come to Bangor, but it’s something I really wanted to do, and I appreciate the whole team’s support on this thing and I’m happy we were able to do it.”

“For a guy like Tim (Boetsch), for him to fight at this point of his career in his hometown and pull off what he pulled off tonight, I know it was really important and special for me and it was for him too,” furthered White, while referring to Boetsch’s come from behind, stoppage win over Brad Tavares.

White added that he believes the fans that attended UFC FN 47 understood how “difficult” it was to promote an event in the north east state.

The card was hosted by the Bangor’s Cross Insurance Center, and featured a bout between light-heavyweight contenders Ryan Bader and Ovince St. Preux in the headliner. Bader won the bout via unanimous decision.
