UFC FN 56: “Shogun” Rua Plans to Discuss Future With Team, “Defeats Always Suck”

By FCF Staff

Not only was “Shogun” Rua quickly taken out last night by Ovince St. Preux, but questions regarding the former light-heavyweight champ’s future are likely to be widespread, since it was his fourth loss in five fights.

Rua was dropped by a St. Preux hook moments into their UFC Fight Night 56 headliner, and after the latter landed several more punches, the fight was called. While discussing the loss and what might come next at the post-fight presser, the 32 year-old Rua stated:

“Losing is always bad. In this weight class, and heavier weight, when a punch lands you feel it. But I’m going to get through this  loss, and talk to my team and think about the future, but defeats always suck.”

Just last week the UFC announced that Rua will coach the next season of TUF Brazil opposite Anderson Silva. The two are not expected to fight, however, following the season.

Rua KO’d James Te Huna last December, but in his last five bouts, he’s incurred defeats to Chael Sonnen, Dan Henderson, Alexander Gustafsson and now St. Preux.
