UFC FN 57: Frankie Edgar Discusses Need for “Decisive” Win Over Cub Swanson

Heading into UFC Fight Night 57 there’s been a lot of talk about the title shot runs of Cub Swanson and Conor McGregor, but Frankie Edgar is hoping to re-write that narrative tonight.

The former lightweight champ will battle Swanson in the headliner of tonight’s card, who has won six straight bouts and is currently ranked #2 in the UFC’s featherweight division. McGregor has also been making waves, through his four consecutive wins and headline grabbing comments, and could also lock up a title shot if he beats Dennis Siver in January.

Edgar recently spoke with UFC.com about tonight’s bout, and while discussing his own title shot prospects versus those of Swanson and McGregor, he stated:

“I don’t pay attention to what people have to say,” he says. “There’s always going to be someone out there who is going to say something. I’ve been in there with the best fighters at 145 and 155, and I’ve always done more than hold my own. If I’m going to fight for the title after Swanson, I need a dominant win that is not only decisive, but is impressive. People have to be talking about it after the fact. There’s no such thing as a hundred percent chance at a title shot.”

The 33 year-old Edgar faced the champion Jose Aldo in February, 2013, and lost via unanimous decision. Since then he’s defeated Charles Oliveira and BJ Penn. Edgar is ranked #3 in the UFC’s 145 division.

UFC FN 57 will be hosted by the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.
