As Charles Rosa prepares to battle at UFC Fight Night 59 this weekend, the featherweight clearly hasn’t lost site of why he started fighting several years ago.

Rosa will take on Sean Soriano on January 18th, after dropping a memorable, unanimous decision loss to Dennis Siver last October. The 28 year-old recently spoke to UFC.com, and while discussing his aspirations for the sport, Rosa stated:

“I know there’s a certain window to be a fighter and to really do something special that nobody else can do, and I’m definitely taking a shot at it,” Rosa said. “I’m in this to be a champion; I’m not just in it to fight in the UFC. I want to be the best, and that’s what I’m gunning for.”

Soriano (8-2), who is coming off consecutive losses to Tatsuya Kawajiri and Chas Skelly, trains out of the Blackzilians camp in Florida. The gym is apparently located right by Rosa’s home, and while discussing this fact, the American Top Team fighter noted:

“I can see the Blackzilians’ gym if I walk out my front door and run across the street,” Rosa told UFC.com. “When I go for my run, I run to the beach, and when I go back, instead of just stopping at my house, I run across the street and around the gym once. It gives me a little extra push, a little extra motivation.”

UFC FN 59 will be hosted by the TD Garden in Boston, and will feature Conor McGregor taking on Siver in the main event.
