Josh Koscheck

Josh Koscheck did the UFC a favor by agreeing to fight Erick Silva last night on just a few weeks notice, but the former welterweight contender was unable to snap his losing streak, in what was the final fight of his contract.

Kosheck (17-10) came out aggressively against Silva at UFC Fight Night 62, but took some hard shots and ended up getting submitted with an opening round, guillotine choke. Since it was the decorated wrestler’s final bout on his contract, and also his fifth straight defeat, Koscheck was asked if he’s thinking about retiring following the event.

While speaking at the post-fight press conference, here is what Koscheck had to say:

“I’m not happy with were I’m at. Obviously I’m 37, finishing the last couple of fights on my contract, and they haven’t been the greatest, but I took this fight on short notice. I knew that I could come in here and make this a fun fight, and it didn’t go my way tonight. But, I showed up, I fight every time, I try to fight hard, and today was Erick’s day. He fought good. He fought smart and was the better guy tonight.”

“So, being 37, I told Dana I’d like to fight someone my own age for once. Maybe they can make a senior citizen division here in the UFC. I’ve had a good, long career. since “Ultimate Fighter 1″and you know, it’s been fun, it’s been a fun ride. I’m going to go home, I’m going to sleep for a couple of days, and re-evaluate life, and re-evaluate my career, and see what’s up. Me and Dana, I’m sure we’ll talk.”

The outspoken fighter made his official UFC debut back in 2005, and since then, “Kos” has faced many of the sport’s toughest welterweights, including former champ, Georges St-Pierre twice (Koscheck lost both fights via unanimous decision). After facing GSP for a second time in 2012, Koscheck proceeded to score wins over Mike Pierce and Matt Hughes, before losing these last five bouts.

At the post-fight, press conference, UFC President Dana White said he would talk to Koscheck in a couple days. But, according to a report from MMA Fighting.com, White told FOX Sports 1 that he plans to “push” Koscheck in the direction of retirement.
