Frankie Edgar outscored one of the UFC’s most accomplished fighters on Saturday, and in doing so, “The Answer” says he deserves to fight the promotion’s featherweight champ next.

Edgar fought Urijah Faber at UFC Fight Night 66 on Saturday, and outscored the perennial contender for five rounds and earned the unanimous decision win. The victory was the former lightweight champ’s fourth straight, since he was decisioned by reigning champion Jose Aldo in 2013.

While speaking to FOX Sports 1 after the bout, Edgar relayed the following, when asked if he believes the win should secure him a title shot (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“Yes. I just beat one of the best guys who does our sport for five rounds.”

Faber moved up from bantamweight division to take the bout, where he’s currently ranked #3.

“I knew I had to push the pace and be one step ahead of him,” Edgar noted about Faber. “I knew he was going to come to fight.”

Aldo is set to face Conor McGregor on July 11th, and when you consider the #1 contender Chad Mendes challenged for the belt last fall and lost, Edgar could very well be next in line.
