UFC FN 66: Neil Magny Outlines Process to Continually “Evolve”
By FCF Staff
After beginning his UFC tenure with 1-2 record, Neil Magny has done nothing but win, as heading into UFC Fight Night 66 the welterweight has won six straight fights. If that wasn’t impressive enough, the run becomes that much more notable, when you consider that five of those victories took place in 2014.
Magny (14-3) is booked to fight Hyun Gyu Lim (13-4-1) this Saturday in Manila, and in a recent interview with UFC.com, the 27 year-old had this to say about his evolution as a fighter.
“I try not to get to the point where I feel content where I’m at, so I constantly ask my coaches what I need to work on,” he said. “Even in fights that I win, I pick at the things I did wrong and things I can improve on. I try not to be content with my performances and I constantly try to improve as a fighter. Whether that means putting on a Jiu-Jitsu gi and challenging myself that way, or wrestling with D-1 wrestlers and trying to win in the takedown battle, or sparring with guys who are purely kickboxers or boxers and getting them to challenge me in that aspect, I’m constantly trying to evolve and test myself and not let myself be content with the best that I am now and knowing I could still do better.”
Most recently, in February, Magny submitted Kiichi Kunimoto with a third round, rear-naked-choke.
UFC FN 66 will take place in Manila, Philippines, and in the main event, featherweight Frankie Edgar will take on Urijah Faber.
