Lyoto Machida may be set to face one of the most accomplished wrestlers to cross over into MMA at UFC Fight Night 70, but “The Dragon” believes his Karate pedigree will once again deliver him a victory.

Machida is set to fight Yoel Romero on Saturday, who is a former, Olympic Silver Medalist in freestyle wrestling and a former world champion. Machida, of course, has defeated talented wrestlers in the past like CB Dolloway, Ryan Bader and Randy Couture, among others. Thus, this is likely why the renowned fighter told “UFC Tonight” the following, while discussing Romero (quotes via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“Even though he’s a wrestler, he knows how to fight standing up. He knows how to keep the distance. But I believe in myself and my background in karate. I have a better chance than him and will be prepared on Saturday.”

Machida (22-6) is coming off a submission loss to Luke Rockhold in April, and as a result, some were surprised when the 37 year-old agreed to the June 26th. Especially since the former light-heavyweight champ underwent hand surgery following the loss.

“It’s a great opportunity for me,” noted Machida, who was defeated by Rockhold on April 18th. “I like to be busy and fight many times a year and showcase all my potentials.”

“I had hand surgery after the fight,” Machida noted while discussing the injury. “They took some fragments out. I returned to training in three weeks. I had a great camp. I’m ready to fight now.”

Romer (9-1), meanwhile, hasn’t fought since his controversial, stoppage win over Tim Kennedy last September.

UFC FN 70 will take place in Hollywood, Florida.
