Although Katsunori Kikuno is coming off a knockout loss and is 2-2 in the UFC so far, the accomplished vet hasn’t abandoned his hopes of becoming the promotion’s featherweight champ.

Kikuno (22-7-2) is scheduled to fight Diego Brandao (19-10) next Saturday at UFC Fight Night 75, which will take place in his native Japan. The bout comes after Kikuno was KO’d by Edimilson Souza this past March.

Recently the former DEEP champ spoke with UFC.com about his upcoming fight and his career, and while doing so, Kikuno stated this:

“In the future when I look back, I want to be able to say that I was UFC champion,” the 33 year-old said. “This is the place that decides the best in the world, which means, this is where I can achieve my goal.”

“I love kakutougi,” a Japanese word that is tied to combat sports, “and I love getting stronger. I believe that I can continue to get stronger and I believe I can be UFC champion.”

Brandao, meanwhile, is looking to build on his TKO win (due to doctor stoppage) over Jim Hettes in April. The Brazilian is 3-2 in his last 5 bouts.

UFC FN 75 will be hosted the Saitama Super Arena in Japan. In the main event, Josh Barnett will take on fellow heavyweight contender, Roy Nelson.
