UFC FN 78: Efrain Escudero Says “Letting my Hands go”, “Having Fun” Behind Recent Success

Escudero

Efrain Escudero may have come up short in his return to the Octagon last September, but the lightweight says relaxing and and enjoying fighting, is what’s behind his recent successes.

Last fall, Escudero was brought back to the UFC for his third stint with the promotion, and at UFC FN 51, he was decisioned by Leandro Santos. Since then, however, the TUF 8 winner has defeated Rodrigo Goiana de Lima and Drew Dober. Escudero also coached on the second season of TUF: Latin America.

On Saturday, Escudero (24-9) will take on Leandro Silva (18-3-1), and in advance of the bout he spoke with UFC.com. While reflecting on 2015 thus far, the 29 year-old relayed this:

“I think this year has been really good for me,” Escudero said. “Mostly it has been my mentality. I was always too cautious. I would always say this was the new and improved Efrain, but the new and improved Efrain never did anything for me. I kind of told myself, ‘What got me into the UFC?’ It was the old Efrain that got me to the UFC. I thought, ‘I need to stop thinking and I need to just go’. That’s exactly what I’ve been doing. I’ve been letting my hands go, I’ve been having fun, I’ve been smiling in the fight. I’m enjoying it and I’m loving every single moment of it.”

Silva, meanwhile, earned a UD win over Lewis Gonzalez in his last outing, and has gone 2-1, with 1 no contest in the UFC thus far.

UFC FN 78 will be hosted by Monterrey, Mexico.
