As Benson Henderson prepares to battle welterweight Thiago Alves on November 28th, the former lightweight champ isn’t ruling out a return to 155, but it doesn’t sound like it’s in his plans.

Henderson will take on Alves at UFC Fight Night 79, which will take place in Seoul, South Korea. The bout will mark the first time Henderson has fought since he took on welterweight Brandon Thatch in February. Henderson drew widespread praise for submitting the punishing striker in round four.

Recently Henderson spoke to UFC.com about his upcoming bout with Alves, and while discussing his plans, “Smooth” relayed this:

“I’m not going to say I’ll never go back to 155,” Henderson said. “Making the weight would be hard to do on short notice and it’s not a pleasant cut, but if the right fight was there for the taking, I would definitely consider jumping on it, but I’m so excited to really test myself at 170. In my opinion, the large majority of fighting comes down to how big your heart is. I’d say at least 75 percent of fighting all comes down to the size of your heart and how far you are willing to go for victory.”

Henderson (22-5) was coming off losses to lightweights Donald Cerrone and Rustam Khabilov, before facing Thatch.

Alves (21-10), meanwhile, was stopped by Carlos Condit (due to a cut) in his last outing. Prior to that he scored consecutive wins over Jordan Mein and Seth Baczynski.
