UFC FN 80: Nathan Coy Can’t Wait to Make UFC Debut, “I’ve Always Been Ready For This”

After fighting professionally for over eight years and competing for big stage promotions like Bellator and Strikeforce, Nathan Coy has finally received the call he always wanted.

Recently the rugged wrestler was offered a fight with Danny Roberts (11-1), this Thursday, at UFC Fight Night 80. Although the offer came on just a couple of weeks notice, the 37 year-old Coy didn’t hesitate to say yes.

“My reaction when I got the call, which was Saturday this past week, late November I believe, it was all I’ve been thinking about since I got into MMA, was a call to get into the UFC,” Coy said in a recent episode of Full Contact Fighter Radio, when asked for his reaction upon receiving the offer. “I couldn’t tell you how excited I was.”

Coy (14-5) agreed to step in as a replacement for his injured American Top Team teammate, Michael Graves.

“I got the phone call from Dan Lambert, and I know he’s been working really hard and he’s been committed to getting me in the UFC for sometime. It worked out. A couple of things went my way. I went to Australia with my brother, Steve Montgomery, and I was in his corner (for UFC 193) and I asked Dana White if I could get into the UFC anytime soon, and he put me in pretty damn quick.”

The signing comes after Coy competed on the 21st season of “The Ultimate Fighter”, which pitted ATT against the Blackzilians camp. Coy, who has gone 4-1 in his last 5 official bouts, went 1-1 during the show.

“So I asked for it, I was ready for it, and I’m going to do my thing next week.”

And what about the fact Coy is taking the fight on short notice? And hasn’t prepared for Roberts with a full camp?

“This is awesome in a way. I get to fight next week,” said Coy. “This is a dream come true. Man, I’ve been doing this a long time and pretty much every day, so I’m ready to fight. I was ready three weeks ago if you had asked, six months ago if you asked. I’ve always been ready for this. I can’t wait to compete here.”

UFC FN 80 will be hosted by the Cosmopolitan at the Chelsea in Las Vegas, Nevada.
