UFC FN 81: Eddie Alvarez Wants Title Shot, Says he Can “Out-Battle” Rafael dos Anjos
By FCF Staff
After grinding his way to a split decision win over Anthony Pettis at UFC Fight Night 81, Eddie Alvarez is calling for a title shot, and he’s willing to wait in order to secure it.
Alvarez turned to his wrestling game on Sunday night in an effort to shut down the dangerous striking of Pettis, and for the most part, he was able to do so. After receiving the win, Alvarez relayed that in his opinion, defeating the former champ should move him into a title fight.
Then, while talking to FOX Sports, Alvarez said this, when asked if he’d be interested in fighting fellow contender Khabib Nurmagomedov next (quote via FOX Sport 1 press release):
“I’m willing to wait with the title fight in March. I don’t think I have much more to prove than fighting the best guy in the division. I’ve fought guys like Rafael Dos Anjos in the past. I know how to adapt. I’ve beat Pettis after being with Mark Henry for only three months. I still have a lot to learn with him, but I know I can out-will and out-battle Rafael Dos Anjos.”
Dos Anjos meanwhile is scheduled to fight featherweight champ Conor McGregor on March 5th at UFC 197.
