Stephen Thompson demonstrated in compelling fashion at UFC Fight Night 82 that he is a legit, welterweight contender, by taking Johny Hendricks out in the opening round.

Hendricks attempted to close the distance and take Thompson down early on into the headliner, but the latter managed to keep the fight standing. The vaunted striker proceeded to land kicks and punches from various angles, and put Hendricks away with a flurry along the cage.

With the win, Thompson extended his winning streak to six, and jumped right into the title shot mix.
