Heading into UFC Fight Night 82 Stephen Thompson said he planned to take out Johny Hendricks and jump right into the title shot mix, and “Wonderboy” says he’s done just that.

Thompson finished Hendricks in memorable fashion on Saturday, by stunning the former welterweight champ with a spinning kick, and then finishing him with a swarm of punches. The bout didn’t make it into the second round.

So, following the impressive victory, Thompson had this to say about his next bout (quote via MMA Junkie.com):

“Of course, defeating Hendricks, he’s a tough guy, the No. 2-ranked guy, former welterweight champion – I’m asking for the title,” Thompson said. “I know there’s a lot of guys in line, but I think after that performance, I deserved it.”

Thompson has won six straight fights. Other fighters who are in the title shot picture right now include Tyron Woodley and Carlos Condit. Woodley was promised a title shot after Hendricks was unable to face him last October, due to weight cutting issues.

Condit, on the other hand, battled the champion Robbie Lawler to a split decision loss last month. There have been plenty of calls for an immediate rematch.
