Some observers believe last night’s bout between Frank Mir and Mark Hunt may have been stopped a tad early, but the latter says there was no need to inflict any more punishment.

After Hunt floored Mir with a booming right hand, in the opening round of their UFC Fight Night 85 fight, the vaunted striker walked away. The referee, meanwhile, called off the bout, even though Mir was still conscious.

At the post-fight press conference, Hunt was asked about the walk off win, and the 41 year-old heavyweight said this (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“Frank, he was still in the dark lands when I saw him [after landing the punch],” Hunt said. “His face was still…he wasn’t there, so I just left it. He wasn’t there. He was out, somewhere else.”

The win was Hunt’s second in a row, as the New Zealand fighter stopped Antonio Silva in November.

The 36 year-old Mir, meanwhile, has lost six of his last eight fights.
