UFC FN 88: Cody Garbrandt Storms Through Thomas Almeida

Cody Garbrandt

By FCF Staff

Cody Garbrandt made a compelling case for inclusion in the UFC’s top ten, bantamweight rankings tonight, by quickly taking out Thomas Almeida.

The Team Alpha Male fighter peppered Almeida with punches from the opening bell, and although the latter attempted to fight back, Garbrandt’s power proved to be too much. Midway through the opening round, Garbrandt put Almeida down with a booming right hand, and forced referee “Big” John McCarthy’s intervention.

Almeida had won 20 straight bouts prior to tonight’s UFC Fight Night 88 card. With the win, Garbrandt moved his record to 9-0.

In the co-headliner, Jeremy Stephens spoiled the featherweight debut of former bantamweight champ, Renan Barao. Stephens outgunned Barao in many of the striking exchanges, and was able to defend nearly all of the latter’s takedown attempts. After the thrilling and competitive fight, Stephens was awarded the UD win.
