UFC FN 88: Erik Koch Credits New “Diet” And “Lifestyle” For Succesful Return
By FCF Staff
Erik Koch‘s return to the Octagon on Sunday night was an impressive one, and the former 145’er says a new approach to training was a key reason why.
Koch took on Shane Campbell at UFC Fight Night 88, and proceeded to submit the rangy lightweight in the second round. The fight marked the first time Koch had fought since May, 2014, when he was stopped by Daron Cruickshank.
The 27 year-old vet, who has battled injuries in recent years, reported the following after the win (quote via MMA Junkie.com):
“I don’t think it’s so much physically, it’s mentally,” Koch said. “I put everything together. My mindset, it can’t be broken.
“I’ve changed my diet. When I used to fight at 145, I glorified getting really heavy in between fights. But it’s a lifestyle. Now I’m not dieting when I get a fight. I’m always ready to go. And you can see it in my body. Physically, I’m a lot stronger.”
With the win, the Roufusport fighter moved his overall record to 15-4. UFC FN 88 took place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
