UFC FN 89: Patrick Cote Wants “Fight of The Year” With Robbie Lawler

Patrick Cote

Patrick Cote understands he’s not in the title shot conversation currently, but the Canadian welterweight’s hoping to change that fact in the coming months, starting this Saturday at UFC Fight Night 89.

Cote is booked to fight perennial lightweight contender Donald Cerrone this weekend, in a bout that will be contested at 170 pounds. Recently the rugged vet spoke to UFC.com about the upcoming bout, as well as his future. While doing so, Cote stated the following:

“If I put Cerrone away inside two rounds I would love to work my way towards a fight with Robbie Lawler. I know he’s fighting Tyron Woodley, but who wouldn’t like to see Robbie and I fight? That fight would be guaranteed fireworks,” he exclaimed.

“If people want an exciting fight where two guys exchange in the pocket, put me in the Octagon with Lawler. It would be ‘Fight of the Year’.”

The 36 year-old Cote has won three straight bouts and is 4-1 in his last 5 contests. UFC FN 89 will take place in Ottawa, Ontario.

Lawer will face Woodley at UFC 201 on July 30th.
