UFC FN 95: Roy Nelson Wouldn’t Take Back Post-Fight Incident With John McCarthy

Roy Nelson

By FCF Staff

Roy Nelson has apologized for lightly kicking “Big” John McCarthy, following his KO win over “Bigfoot” Silva last night, but it sounds like the heavyweight would likely do it again.

Nelson dropped Silva in the second round with a huge right hand, and after landing several more, McCarthy stopped the bout. Nelson was visibly upset by what he perceived as a late stoppage, and lightly kicked McCarthy in the back. He also flipped the bird to the highly regarded official.

Following the fight, here is some of what “Big Country” had to say about the incident (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“I didn’t want to hurt ‘Bigfoot’ more than I had to,” Nelson said. “And I got taken by the moment, because it’s like I’m beating the sh*t out of somebody and you’re like, dude, enough is enough. And for me, it hurt my feelings. And I apologize to Big John, but I wouldn’t take it back. It just hurt me, that I’ve got to keep on hitting a guy that doesn’t need to be hit.”

The incident will reportedly only be reviewed by the Brazilian Commission if McCarthy files a formal complaint.
